During my practicum, I had the opportunity to design and implement my own lesson plans based on the national curriculum used by the school. The textbook is organized in a clear sequence, starting from vocabulary, followed by reading passages, and then focusing on grammar derived from the text.

My cooperating teacher also designed lesson plans aligned with the curriculum, which helped me understand how to structure my teaching in a more systematic way. From this experience,

I was able to develop my own lessons step by step.

Grade 7: Procedure Text

For Grade 7 students, I taught procedure text using a Genre-Based Approach.

I started each lesson with a short warm-up and an ice-breaking activity to create a relaxed and engaging atmosphere. Then, I introduced the structure and language features of procedure text.
Students worked in groups to analyze examples and collaboratively write their own texts.
At the end of the lesson, each group presented their work in front of the class.

This activity helped students understand the lesson more clearly and also improved their confidence in using English.

Grade 8: Asking and Giving Opinions & Showing Agreement and Disagreement 

For Grade 8 students, I taught how to ask for and give opinions, as well as how to express agreement and disagreement through conversation.

I used a jigsaw reading activity to encourage collaboration and active participation.

Students worked together to understand the content and share ideas. After that, they created their own conversations based on what they had learned.
At the end of the lesson, each group presented their dialogue. A short test was also given to check students’ understanding.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the lessons, students were able to:

• identify language features and expressions correctly (Knowledge)

• use them in writing and speaking (Psychomotor)

• participate actively in classroom activities (Attitude)

I designed these lessons to promote:
Collaboration – through group work and shared tasks
Critical Thinking – through analyzing texts and discussions
Creativity – through writing and presenting their own work

 

Group activities allowed students to learn from each other, while presentations helped them build confidence and improve communication skills.

Overall, this teaching approach made the learning process more engaging, interactive, and student-centered. It also helped me grow as a teacher by understanding how to design lessons that balance content, skills, and student participation.
